The Green Job Boards Trend

Despite the world economic funk, companies are still advertising jobs and recruiting talent. Jobs in certain niches are increasing a lot, reflecting trends in business.

One example of this is the trend for “green jobs”. A green job (or “green-collar job”) is one where the role or company is related to environmental responsibility.

  • It could be in science or engineering, such as research and development of alternative energy production.
  • It could be a role in a normal company, helping to audit and reduce energy consumption, reduce waste, promote recycling, etc.
  • Or it could be a normal job in a green company or organisation with an environmental mission.

Here’s a graph, courtesy of Google Trends, showing an increase in people interested in green jobs.

Green jobs is an excellent example of an employment niche and this is where small job boards typically thrive. Instead of having green jobs mixed in with all the other jobs, recruiters can get better results by advertising on a green job board. People who specifically want to work for a green company or in a green role will seek out and follow job boards that offer those types of jobs.

There are a few larger green job boards around, such as TreeHugger, Greenbiz.com and SustainLane.

More specific ones include Green Jobs UK and Wind Industry Jobs.
